Steps to make Toon Thousand Layer Cake

  • 1. Mix the flour with cold water to form a relatively soft dough, knead it for five minutes, then knead it again and cover it with dough for ten minutes.
  • 2. Remove the old stem of the Chinese toon, clean it thoroughly, and blanch it in hot water. Remove it and squeeze out the excess water, then cut it slightly with a knife.
  • 3. Take a tablespoon of flour and add a small amount of thirteen spices. Heat the oil in a pot and pour it over the flour while it is still hot. Stir evenly with chopsticks while pouring, then add an appropriate amount of salt and stir thoroughly to form a thick oily surface.

  • 7. Fold the dough like a fan, without making the folds too wide.
  • 8. With the side of the Chinese toon facing inward, gently tug on the folded dough while tightly rolling it up and closing it tightly.
  • 9. Flatten the rolled dough with your palm.
  • 10. Gently roll thin with a rolling pin, and the rolling will be more even when flipping over.
  • 11. Add a little oil to a flat bottomed pan or frying pan. After the oil is slightly hot, put in the rolled out cakes, cover them, and heat them over low heat.
  • 12. After frying one side until golden brown, flip it over until both sides are golden brown. The cake is cooked and can be eaten while hot.
